Backstage Note On JBL Leaving SmackDown Live Commentary Team

On Friday, JBL announced his departure from the SmackDown Live commentary team so he can have more time to continue doing the work that he’s done with at risk kids and communities.

Following the announcement of his departure, Pro Wrestling Sheet reported that JBL informed WWE back in May that he wasn’t going to re-sign with them under the same terms, which was right around the same time that he was being blamed for Mauro Ranallo’s departure from the company.

“Sources told us back in May that Layfield informed WWE he wouldn’t be re-signing under the same terms when his deal expired, but we we’re unable to confirm until now. Unclear what his reasoning was, but that was shortly after he was targeted in reports as the cause for Mauro Ranallo‘s WWE exit.”

After much consideration, I will be stepping back my weekly role as Smackdown Announcer to dedicate more (cont)
