The Derby boss has been a frontrunner for the role ever since it became apparent Sarri would return to Italy to manage the Serie A outfit.

The Italian secured a third-placed Premier League finish and won the Europa League in his debut season in England, while he also guided the Blues to the EFL Cup final.

But he came under fire from the Chelsea supporters, who criticised his style of play as the Blues languished well behind Manchester City and Liverpool in the Premier League table.

Sarri is reportedly in line for a salary increase when he takes the Turin hot-seat, with his earnings increasing from €5.6 million per year to around €7m per season when he joins.
