WWE has seen its fair share of top independent wrestling talents signed in recent years, with former ROH World Champion Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish among the latest to make their debuts on NXT television.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, EVOLVE star Fred Yehi is the latest name expected to sign with the company. It’s unclear whether or not the Georgia native will start with NXT to begin with, or be brought to 205 Live to work with several of his contemporaries.

Yehi is a former EVOLVE Tag Team Champion and the current reigning Full Impact Pro Heavyweight Champion within the WWN family. He got his start in 2012 working promotions in the Georgia region, before getting a bigger break at EVOLVE 51 in a singles match against high-flying sensation Lio Rush, who recently signed with NXT.

He quickly became a mainstay with the indie promotion, working against several names that have since been signed to the 205 Live brand including Drew Gulak, Tony Nese and TJ Perkins. In 2016 Yehi competed in a Cruiserweight Classic qualifying match hosted by EVOLVE. While he was unsuccessful in his attempt, the match was featured on WWE’s YouTube account and website, given the star some nice exposure.

At September’s EVOLVE 93 event Yehi defeated Cedric Alexander, who was on loan from WWE for the show. It wasn’t reported on at the time, but in retrospect the bout may have been something of a tryout.
