The Red Devils had been crying out for creativity in midfield, especially with Paul Pogba a long-term absentee this season, and the Barcelona star – currently on loan at Bayern Munich – had been tipped as a new signing.
Fernandes’ arrival appears to have solved the issue almost immediately, which means United now have no need to land Coutinho, who once played for their fierce rivals.
But, Ferdinand still believes the Brazilian might need a transfer to the Premier League to save his elite level career.

“At Liverpool he was an amazing player, but since he left Liverpool he hasn’t really done it yet,” Ferdinand said while taking questions on his official Instagram feed.
“He struggled at Barcelona, struggled to fit in there and then he hasn’t done amazingly well at Bayern.
