June 25 mark the ten year anniversary of the discovery of the bodies of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy (Who was known as Woman in her wrestling career) and their son Daniel in their home in Atlanta Georgia.
Fans had been looking forward to a match between Benoit and CM Punk that weekend for the vacant ECW Title at the Vengeance Pay-Per-View however reported had been going around that Benoit had said he received texts that his family were very sick and coughing up blood and went home. No word was officially announced until during the show itself when it was announced Chris would not be there due to a family emergency. He was replaced by John Morrison who won the belt as fans showed their displeasure.
The next day WWE contacted Atlanta police after some of those close to Chris receiving strange text messages from Nancy’s phone. The discovery was made and that night’s 3 hour RAW was canceled, instead devoting the time to Benoit and his family. Unfortunately, it was during the broadcast that police informed the public they were investigating a murder-suicide. The next night on ECW, Vince made the statement that with new information, that Chris Benoit would never be mentioned on WWE programming again. Something the WWE largely still does outside of their vault content on the WWE Network.
