Since Roman Abramovich’s arrival at Stamford Bridge in 2003, Chelsea and Liverpool have developed a strong rivalry – be it the remarkable European nights under the lights or the controversies in the transfer market.
The two sides experienced contrasting starts to their seasons, with Liverpool smashing Norwich at Anfield on Friday in a 4-1 win.
But then less than 48 hours later, Chelsea were hit for four themselves at Old Trafford as Manchester United blew them away.
Perhaps the only positive from the weekend for the Blues was the fact Alisson Becker was ruled out of Wednesday’s fixture.
Thankfully, the Brazil international’s injury is merely trivial, but you would think the sight of Adrian in goal for Liverpool as his deputy would be a relief to the Chelsea strikers.

But in actual fact, you would be mistaken.
The Spaniard, who joined the Reds on a free transfer from West Ham United this summer, has an outstanding record against Chelsea and no-one knows that better than Frank Lampard.
