West Ham transfer news: Diego Costa signing would take Hammers to the next level, says Stuart Pearce

The former Hammers defender and coach says the Spaniard is a ‘different animal’ to recently-departed Marko Arnautovic and landing him would take the club to the next level.

Costa has been linked with a return to the Premier League after his below-par spell back at Atletico Madrid.

The 30-year-old has scored just five league goals since leaving Chelsea in January 2018, and was hit with an eight-match ban in April for abusing a referee.

A host of English clubs have been linked with Costa this summer, including West Ham, Everton and Wolves, while he has also been described as a good match for Manchester United.

Pearce says the impish frontman ‘would be a great asset for any club in the Premier League’, but believes he could make a huge impact at the London Stadium.
